The Melplash Show is the annual event that locals and visitors to Bridport and West Dorset most look forward to. Taking place at the West Bay Showground, it is a traditional one-day agricultural show that brings together the best of agriculture and rural life. For farmers and those who work the land, it is a chance to show others what they are doing and a time to enjoy meeting their peers and associates; for those not so familiar with farming, this is an opportunity to learn more about what it entails while having a fun day out with the family.
With farming still at the heart of its business, visitors have the rare opportunity to see the region’s best farm animals up close as they compete for top prizes. For horse lovers there is always an exceptional selection of horses and ponies, including heavy horses and show jumping horses.
For the younger generation, there is a lot of fun to be had. To help them connect with food and farming, the Farming Discovery and Exploration marquee will be filled with hands-on farm-to-table activities as well as latest technologies in agriculture and the opportunity to experience the exciting careers that are available in agriculture. today.
A visit to the horticulture, floristry, home produce and craft competition tents is always a highlight of the day and a chance to marvel not only at the size of the vegetables and the beautiful floral arrangements, but also exceptional talents from the region.
The day is also fun! The Devil’s Horsemen, a team of world-renowned horse stunts and riders, will take center stage in the main ring at Bradfords Building Supplies, alongside horse jumping, a horse and run tour as well as the highlight of the day, the grand parade of award-winning animals. Other attractions include a carnival and numerous ride shows, including Strawberry Jam Clown, FB Pocket Orchestra and Sheridan the Sheepdog. There’s also a fun campaign arena offering everything from ferret races, hunting dog and falconry demonstrations, you can even enter your own dog in the terrier races!
And that’s not all ! There are over 400 trade stalls offering a wide range of products and services spread over three areas, including two indoor marquees for artisans and traders, a large food hall filled with award-winning products, a cooking theater with live demonstrations throughout throughout the day, a fantastic selection of ‘food to go’ and the Melplash Inn where you can enjoy a pint and enjoy the day.
