SYRACUSE – President Joe Biden recently announced his intention to appoint Brian S. Murray as USDA’s state director for rural development in New York.

State R&D directors are the general managers of rural development in the states and territories and are responsible for carrying out the mission of rural development for the benefit of all in rural America. In conjunction with the guidance and support of the national office, state directors are responsible for promoting the mission and strategic objectives of rural development and providing key leadership to develop and sustain a productive, diverse and productive public workforce. inclusive.

Murray has spent over 19 years with rural development. He started his career with the agency in 2002 as a loan specialist in the Canton field office. In 2007, he became Regional Director, serving New York from the southern part of the state to the Canadian border. Most recently, he was Associate Business Director for New York State.

Longtime New Yorker, Murray hails from rural Peterboro, Madison County. He graduated from the State University of New York in Potsdam where he obtained a degree in financial economics. He is also active in his community. He serves in his local fire department as an indoor firefighter and a member of the rescue team.
