WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Community Facilities Loan and Grant Program has awarded a total of $32,702,000 to three communities in Knox and Richland counties.
“This federal funding makes critical investments in improving our state’s infrastructure and strengthening economic growth,” Brown said. “Today more than ever, we must ensure that communities in Knox and Richland counties have the resources to improve the daily lives of their residents. My office and I will continue to work with community partners to ensure that these communities continue to get the support they need.”
Funding provided includes:
- Grant of $44,000 and a scholarship of $36,000 to lend at Union Township in Knox County to purchase a road maintenance truck.
- Loan of $23,000,000 at
The home of the Ohio Eastern Star in Knox County to fund the expansion of the Ohio Eastern Star Home senior independent living space campus. - $9,622,000 to lend at Washington Township in Richland County to fund the construction of a multi-purpose building for the township’s fire, road and administrative departments.
These funds are part of the USDA’s Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program, which provides affordable financing to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. The program helps small towns, cities and rural communities improve their infrastructure and provide essential facilities such as schools, libraries, courthouses, public safety facilities, hospitals, colleges and daycares .
