Several rural community projects in southwest Wicklow will share a financial boost of over € 72,000.
Funding was confirmed on Monday August 30 by the Ministry of Rural and Community Development under the CLÁR program, which provides grants for small infrastructure projects in rural areas that have experienced significant depopulation over a defined period.
Two projects in Wicklow are among 104 projects nationwide to receive funding. The Askanagap community group received € 50,000 for an astro turf and an additional € 22,510.13 awarded to Knockananna Youth Projects for projectors for multi-use play areas. Both projects received grants under measure 2 of CLÁR, which covers community outdoor recreation facilities.
In addition, St Patrick’s NS in Rathvilly, Co. Carlow received € 44,963 to upgrade play facilities on the school grounds, resurface the junior yard and install play equipment in the yard.
Rural and Community Development Minister Heather Humphreys said: “The 2021 CLÁR program puts our young people first. By investing in our schools, playgrounds, outdoor facilities and other projects, we demonstrate the value and appreciation we have for the leaders of the future. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that our young people are our shining lights. Investing in them is an investment in our future – that is the subject of today’s announcement.
