Flipkart Partners with Ministry of Rural Development to Engage Women in E-Commerce

Ease of doing business for MSMEs: Walmart-owned Flipkart on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Rural Development for its Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) program, to bring in local businesses and self-help groups (SHG ), especially those led by women in the electronic commerce fold. Flipkart said the rapprochement is aligned with DAY-NRLM’s goal of building the capacity of rural communities for self-employment and entrepreneurship.

The MoU is part of Flipkart’s Samarth program which aims to help skilled but underserved communities of artisans, weavers and craftsmen sell online through the Flipkart Marketplace, while providing knowledge and training in e-commerce on integration, cataloging, marketing, account management, business ideas and warehousing. In the program, poor women in self-help groups and their federations benefit from financial, economic and social development services to improve their income and quality of life. “SHGs are the backbone of the rural economy and we aim to increase their annual income to at least 1 lakh. We are identifying and collaborating with all possible partners who can contribute to this cause and a partnership between DAY NRLM and Flipkart will help in the process, ”Rural Development Minister and Panchayati Raj Giri Raj Singh said in a statement.

Launched in 2019, Flipkart said the Samarth program currently supports the livelihoods of over 9.50,000 artisans, weavers and artisans across India, and continually strives to attract even more vendors to the platform. form. “The crafts of local artisans, weavers and Indian self-help groups deserve to reach a much wider audience, including and beyond their respective regions. The Flipkart Samarth initiative gives them access to potentially more than 350 million consumers on our platform across the country, ”said Rajneesh Kumar, Director of Corporate Affairs, Flipkart Group.
