Grants to rural communities funding local programs

Over $140,000 has been awarded to rural community organizations in the Comox Valley.

Funding comes from the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) Rural Community Grant Program.

The district says the program launched in January 2021 to help nonprofits benefit their communities. More than 20 companies will benefit from the funding.

“These rural grants help a variety of local community groups by improving their ability to provide services for a variety of activities,” said Doug DeMarzo, general manager of community services.

“Examples of organizations supported this year include the Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society, Arts Denman, the Comox Valley Child Development Association and more than 20 other societies. This year we have a total of $143,273 available to support programs in our region.

The Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society receives $13,523 from the program and the Comox Valley Child Development Association receives $12,000.

Applicants will receive funding scholarships after August 1.

Program applications are reviewed on an annual basis. Funding is for any organization not supported under a multi-year agreement funding system.

Grant applications can be made on the CVRD website.
