IIM Kozhikode and AARDO partner to promote sustainable agriculture and rural development in over 30 countries

IIMK, AARDO have signed an agreement to organize training programs, workshops, seminars to address agricultural and rural challenges in African and Asian countries.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode has collaborated with the Asian-African Rural Development Organization (AARDO) to promote sustainable agriculture and rural development in 33 members, including 31 countries in the Africa-Asia region. Professor Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIMK and Manoj Nardeosingh, Secretary General of AARDO signed an agreement in this regard.

Under this agreement, IIMK and AARDO will cooperate and collaborate to address the challenges of agriculture and sustainable rural development; through research, publication, consultation and advice. They will also focus on advancing and sharing new knowledge, innovative solutions, interventions and capacity building to benefit and strengthen the rural communities of these 33 members, which include 31 countries.

“The agreement also strives to recognize the need to strengthen people’s self-reliance, economic resilience and social well-being by ensuring sustainable livelihoods, improved quality of life and a healthy environment in member countries. “, said an official statement from the IIMK. .

Knowledge support and professional management development in fisheries, energy, livestock, sericulture, aquaculture, transport, sustainable agriculture, food processing and value addition of rural settlements, water and waste management, diffusion and transfer models or channels for effective adoption of innovations, affordable and appropriate management practices are also part of the agreement.

Objectives of the collaboration

In addition, IIMK and AARDO will organize in-country international, regional and on-site (OTS) training programs, workshops and seminars to strengthen the institutional capacity of member countries.

It will also conduct research, implement development projects jointly, exchange experts, specialists, create exchange programs with universities, institutes in member countries and provide technical support in formulating projects and guidance, to make this rapprochement a success for developing countries in the Asia-African Region under the umbrella of AARDO, the statement added.

Speaking on the collaboration, Nardeosingh added, “I am pleased with the signing of this MoU with IIM Kozhikode. It will now bring regular interaction between the officials of the member countries with the learned faculty members of IIMK through different technical programs, which would bring better management skills to the officials to solve the problems and challenges facing the rural areas of AARDO member countries. AARDO would benefit immensely from advanced scientific management methodology and tools to improve the lives of rural areas.

Expressing joy over the growing collaborations, Chatterjee added, “Bringing these two institutions together for the greater good of the people has enormous potential to make a difference in the lives of billions of people from two continents – Africa and the United States. IIM Kozhikode seeks to bring the wisdom of Indian management to solve ever-changing technological meta-trends, which will overwhelm the rural life and agriculture sector in the new world order, driven by rising Asia and the Aspiring Africa through the successful implementation of studied Sustainable Agriculture and Sustainable Rural Development Practices.
