Ministry of Agriculture awards 33 rural development program contracts

ZAGREB, April 13, 2022 – The Ministry of Agriculture on Wednesday awarded 33 contracts worth more than HRK 65 million under the rural development program.

Minister Marija Vučković said the aid was focused on those transforming agriculture by increasing productivity and capacity as well as using new technologies.

We also focus on improving living conditions in small local communities, she added.

Higher food prices

Asked by the press about the rise in food prices, Vučković said that inflation had already started to be higher than expected last year and that the government had reacted quickly, especially in cattle breeding, which, was the first sector to feel inflation in terms of feed price increases, she said.

“Inflation has continued this year and we can no longer say that it is transitory,” she said, adding that inflation has also accelerated due to the war in Ukraine.

Inflation “is first and foremost fueled by energy prices”, but it also manifests itself significantly in food prices, the minister said.

She recalled that the government had adopted a package of measures worth HRK 4.8 billion to mitigate energy price hikes and said that, if necessary, it would adopt additional measures to soften the blow. increased purchasing power and reduce the risk of all forms of poverty.
