Srinagar/New Delhi, August 26: Union Ministry for Rural Development on Friday approved Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-Phase-III for 1276 KM costing Rs 1357 Cr for Union Territory of J&K.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Rural Development Giriraj Singh.

Calling the approval of PMGSY-III another step in J&K’s rural connectivity, the Lieutenant Governor said, “Modern rural infrastructure and improved connectivity will improve the rural economy and quality of life.

“It will provide all-weather road connectivity to unconnected homes for sustainable and inclusive growth,” the Lieutenant Governor added.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Jammu and Kashmir is among the top performing states/UTs in the country.

With the mission of ensuring the Safety, Connectivity and Mobility of each village, 2,353 PMGSY projects covering 17,336 km connecting 2,071 homes have already been carried out. In 2021-2022, 3284 Kms of PMGSY roads were built, in addition to 7301 Kms were paved. Also, 125 bridges are to be constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to provide connectivity to remote areas.
