New WV Director of USDA Rural Development Appointed

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has appointed a new director for West Virginia.

Previously director of economic development in the office of US Senator Joe Manchin, Ryan Thorn took up his new post on March 28.

Ryan Thorn speaks to citizens of rural communities in West Virginia and discusses his new position.

In fiscal year 2021, more than $500 million in rural community investments were made by USDA Rural Development West Virginia. $85 million in investments in infrastructure, community facilities and commercial programs, and $420 million in investments for single and multi-family housing programs.

“As the state director of rural development, I want to grow on that, to continue to provide these communities with opportunities to be that spark that allows communities to grow from the bottom up, to the middle, and so no community or person is left behind,” said Ryan Thorn, USDA Director of Rural Development, West Virginia State Director.

Thorn encouraged rural town leaders in West Virginia to learn about the opportunities available to them through USDA Rural Development:
