Peterboro native appointed USDA New York State Director of Rural Development – Oneida Dispatch

Peterboro, NY – President Joe Biden announced in December his appointment of Brian S. Murray as USDA’s state director for rural development in New York City.

According to the USDA, state R&D directors serve as the chief executive officer of rural development in states and territories and are responsible for carrying out the mission of rural development for the benefit of all in rural America. .

With guidance and support from the national office, state directors are responsible for promoting the mission and strategic objectives of rural development and providing key leadership to develop and sustain a productive, diverse and inclusive public workforce. .

“The work we do and have done is a down payment on the future not only of our state, but more importantly of our local communities and the nation. I look forward to continuing to provide essential programs, tools and resources to our rural communities and our partners so they can enjoy a more prosperous future, ”said Murray.

About Murray

Murray spent over 19 years in rural development prior to his appointment as New York State Director. He began his career with the agency in 2002 as a loan specialist in the Canton, NY field office. In 2007, he became Regional Director, serving New York from the southern part of the state to the Canadian border. Most recently, Murray was an Associate Business Director for New York State.

Longtime New Yorker, Murray hails from rural Peterboro, New York. He graduated from SUNY Potsdam where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Financial Economics. Murray is also active in his community, serving in his local fire department as an indoor firefighter and a member of the rescue team.
