Rural community warned to be cut off until Christmas

Forbes Shire Council Mayor Phyllis Miller said the cleanup was underway as water entered Jemalong, Bedgerabong and Condobolin.

“As this water passes through, we know there will be people who will be isolated,” Cr Miller said in a social media update Monday.

“You might need food, medical supplies, or medical appointments. “

She encouraged affected residents to call SES to arrange delivery of the groceries.

“We will get those supplies to you,” Cr Miller said.

“We still have rain expected Wednesday and Thursday in the watershed, and we’ll just have to see what happens with that.”

Authorities reiterated their calls for residents across the state not to cross the floodwaters.

A man was rescued from a blown ute by a causeway in Merriwa, NSW Upper Hunter on Monday morning.


He was brought to safety by the Merriwa team of the Volunteer Rescue Association, with the help of the police and paramedics.

A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said they were called around 6:30 a.m. to the scene. The man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed when she was struck by a falling tree branch near Lake Macquarie.

Five NSW ambulance teams were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. Sunday to Watagans National Park in Cooranbong, where 43 millimeters of rain fell within 24 hours at 9 a.m. on Monday.

Police said despite the best efforts of her relatives and first responders, the woman, in her 30s, could not be resuscitated.

“At the time of the incident, the weather conditions were poor with the area inundated with heavy rains throughout the day,” NSW police said in a statement. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
